Milling plexiglass with a CNC machine
Milling plexiglass, not as easy as it may seem.
All plastics on the market can be machined with our machines. That includes Plexiglas of course.
Keep in mind that the common term plexiglass is often used for both acrylic glass and for polycarbonate. The latter, however, is significantly more impact resistant, temperature resistant, and stronger than normal acrylic glass.
When milling plexiglass we highly recommend using a mist cooling unit to get better edges and increase tool life.
As always, it is also important to use correct cutting tools and it is advisable to run on low spindle RPMs.
Also, all plexiglass is not created equal. Cheaper quality will be more difficult to machine than high quality plexiglass.
